Formex products: Pressings

Our pressing division specialises in stamped components. Formex recently installed a new 1600-tonne auto transfer press at the Struandale plant, which is the largest press in the Eastern Cape for a locally owned supplier and will allow Formex to become more internationally competitive for body shop stampings. A second 1000-tonne press was also installed, which boosts our stamping capabilities.

Stamped components are widely used in the automotive industry for various applications, including chassis, body panels and structural parts. Formex provides a wide variety of stamped components, including but not limited to:

  • Chassis components
  • Brake and suspension system parts
  • Engine and transmission components
  • Structural parts

Formex tubing division

Our tubing division produces and distributes tubular and exhaust-related components. This division reaches beyond the automobile industry with stainless steel tubing being a crucial product for a number of other industries.

Formex tubing also makes use of laser welding, TIG welding, CNC bending and forming, and robotic welding technology to manufacture the following tubular components:

  • Exhaust systems
  • Air conditioning and ventilation tubes
  • Suspension system parts
  • Boiler and air-reheater tubes for the power and sugar sectors

We also have the capability to manufacture components such as roll-over protection structures, drive chain tubes, mining split-sets and various construction industry components.

Importance of working with a local supplier

Working with a local supplier has various benefits for South African OEMs and enterprises. For starters, it ensures supply chain efficiency, lowering lead times and logistics expenses. Local suppliers understand the market well and can respond swiftly to changes and requests.

Secondly, working with a local supplier offers cost savings. Businesses can access competitively priced components by reducing overseas shipping and customs costs, contributing to overall cost reductions.

Finally, working with a local supplier such as Formex Industries saves time. They can provide rapid support due to its proximity to OEMs, decreasing reaction times and minimising production disruptions.
