The NAACAM Show 2023 is right around the corner and automotive industry enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting this prestigious event. Taking place at the Sun Bet Arena, in Menlyn, Pretoria on 30 and 31 August 2023, the NAACAM Show is the premier platform for connecting automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers and industry experts.
This year’s show promises to be bigger and better than ever before, showcasing the latest innovations and trends in the automotive components industry. The last event took place in 2019 before the global pandemic, so it’s exciting to see automotive expos returning in full force to South African soil.
As a leading automotive manufacturer and supplier in South Africa, Formex will be attending the event to showcase our wide range of products, automated manufacturing capabilities and cutting-edge technology from our new factory.
We have built a reputation for excellence, innovation and reliability over the years. With state-of-the-art production facilities and equipment, as well as a team of skilled professionals, Formex has established itself as a trusted partner for local and international OEMs and suppliers in the automotive sector.
Formex at the forefront of automotive component manufacturing
South Africa manufactures just under 556 000 vehicles every year, generating R193-billion in new vehicle sales. Formex plays a core role in this industry, supplying automotive parts, completed assemblies and tubular products to various global automotive brands. Our long-standing relationships with direct and indirect customers are a testament to the company’s growth strategy and leadership.
Formex has invested over R140-million towards technology and manufacturing expansion projects. These upgrades have put us in a key position to respond to emerging export markets. As part of these investments, Formex installed a new 1600-tonne auto transfer press at the Struandale plant.
This is the largest press in the Eastern Cape for a locally owned supplier and will allow Formex to become more internationally competitive for body shop stampings, which is important in the shift away from traditional internal combustion engine components.
A second 1000-tonne press will be installed and both presses are scheduled to start production in Q4 2023. Formex continues to lead the sector through updated technology and world-class skills. The compounded offerings lead to increased volumes of vehicle production for our customers.
Formex is able to meet the high capacity demand due to this investment in new machinery. This has opened up new opportunities for the company as it grows its output and manufacturing capabilities. We source over 70% of our raw materials and services from the localised region and Eastern Cape.
Over the last year, various customers of Formex have also invested heavily in the local economy too. Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz are some of the car manufacturers that have directed money towards the expansion of their manufacturing facilities in South Africa. This not only improves local job creation but establishes a long-term commitment to the country and local component suppliers.
