Formex has appointed Modise Mahlanyana as its new commercial manager. His key responsibilities include account management and customer relationships. Mahlanyana is no stranger to the automotive manufacturing sector, having worked as a sales manager for an automotive lighting company before joining Formex.
Mahlanyana is positive and hopeful about the future of the company and its growth trajectory. “The organisation will be 111 years old and will be launching a new manufacturing site next year,” explains Mahlanyana. “For me personally, it’s an exciting and challenging opportunity to learn and grow,” he adds.
Formex Industries is a leading manufacturer and supplier of automotive components, assemblies and tubular products. We supply products to local original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers. Recently, we joined 15 other companies in a multi-billion rand pledge to invest in the South African automotive sector.
Commercial manager’s plans for his division
As a solution-specialist division of Formex, the commercial department is tasked with finding effective solutions to customer problems and needs. “My vision is to improve our customer relations, which will be beneficial in maintaining our current customer base and increase [the] opportunity for new business,” explains Mahlanyana.
As the commercial manager, Mahlanyana will be the face of Formex for many of our customers and suppliers. Over our 110-year history, we have built solid relationships with local and international OEMs and suppliers. This has helped to cement Formex as a key player in the South African automotive components industry.
According to Mahlanyana, the company culture is an integral part of job satisfaction and team performance. “A good company culture fosters increased employee engagement and productivity,” he says. The close-knit ties between employees at Formex contribute to our success and growth. This will be an important aspect of team-building for the commercial department going forward.
Mahlanyana is a patriotic and dedicated individual with a self-professed love for all of South Africa’s national sports teams. He is also handy with tools and has a passion for DIY projects in his spare time. His personal motto is “Fear kills more dreams than failure ever will”, which gives us a glimpse into his psyche and leadership style.
Formex commits to long-term investment
Formex has committed to a multi-lateral pledge to invest in the South African economy between now and December 2024. These investment pledges from 16 local manufacturers will support more than 10 000 jobs across the supply chain and give a leg-up to the local automotive economy.
Formex has already invested over R140 million towards technology and manufacturing expansion projects. These upgrades include a R102 million investment in our new manufacturing facility in Struandale, which has put us in a key position to respond to emerging export markets.
By bringing on board dedicated and qualified leaders like Mahlanyana, the company will go from strength to strength. We are looking forward to seeing where Mahlanyana can take the commercial department and witnessing his growth within the company.
